Monster (The Other Side)

From the 2018 Christmas collection…

The 5:15 p.m. express train rumbles along the elevated track just outside the fourth floor of the empty building on the edge of the city’s west side.  The rhythmic clatter of the wheels shake glass panes in their casings before it’s passed, speeding away toward the Styrsfordshire Hill station. The building is just one of many in such close proximity to the track, the general opinion of developers twenty years back holding that as these were commercial and not residential structures, whether the trains passed by twenty times a day or not had no bearing.  Of course, even if they planned to occupy these buildings, their offices would have been on the topmost floors, not down here amongst the worker bees, so what did it matter if one could reach out and touch the tracks?

The figure seated at the large room’s only table cares very little for how close the building sits to the train or the greed of those who wrung every square inch of space from this neighborhood.  The passing trains are something to be noted distractedly and then disregarded immediately, irrelevant to the purpose for occupying a building that’s currently in between tenants. Still, evidenced by the wide table that was likely once used for conferences and is now used for something wholly different, and the cot set up nearby, this building provides what is needed to the only one currently within its walls.

Two Sides

From the 2017 Christmas Collection…

Side One.

The teahouse is reminiscent of Meiji-era Japan, replete with shoji doors, decorative screens, tatami mats, and wood paneled walls.  In the private dining room reserved for the restaurant’s elite, a low, rectangular table is bordered by zabuton on each side.  The merry trickling of water comes from the small bamboo fountain in one corner, and the air is rich with the scents of what remains on the two daily trayed sets – miso broiled fish, tofu and seaweed salad, seven grain rice, and various accompanying vegetables.  Beside the trays a pot of gyokuro sits on a warmer, the expensive tea brought by the hostess herself. Season’s Eatings

Another story from the 2016 Christmas collection…

Angel Hunt | Streifen :  Alternate Universe 2

The last half block to the apartment building is eaten up in long strides over the aged and cracked sidewalk, dress shoes clicking out a rhythm that’s halfway between a fast paced walk and a jog.   The shining sun in the cloudless afternoon sky imparts plenty of light, but does little to mitigate the chill, the warmth of the office lost before a fraction of the distance toward home was completed.  Each step is harried by the blustery late autumn wind, all sharp edges that slice through the woolen overcoat and layers beneath as if they are the thinnest tissue paper.  The gusts tug at raven-dark hair, twisting the coarse strands into snarls and knots that look as though some small animal has taken up residence.  Dried leaves in the hues of scarlet, gold, and orange crackle underfoot, some swirling here and there in miniature vortexes when caught just right, a clacking accompaniment to the hurried walk.

birthday playdate

When the weather in February tops 70 degrees, opportunity must be seized and dolls taken out for photos.  As I mentioned in the last post, it was also Zeph’s birthday, so Tiny!Zeph got a photoshoot, too, with special guest appearances by Jun Plushie and Mr. Duck.

Tiny!Zephyr is a Fairyland LittleFee Chiwoo.  Aesthetics, froggy hat, clothing, blanket, and Jun Plushie by Nezumi, and eyes from Souldoll.

white-gold birthday

Yesterday was Zephyr’s birthday, so we headed outside for a photoshoot.  It’s hard to believe that a bit over ten years ago he arrived home, my outgoing, fiercely protective, somewhat unpredictable Dark Selestarri teenager.   He’s grown a lot in that time, sometimes in ways that I had never anticipated.  In the Streifen backstory, Zeph was a bed-hopping, hard partying kid with little interest in authority or rules.  As the story transitioned into the rps, he met Jun, and before he’d fully realized what has happening, he fell fast and hard.  Everything he’d known or believed about relationships was turned on its head, and he committed his heart fully, surprising many of those who knew him (including me).

Ten years has passed quickly, but no matter how many tick by, I will always love this boy.
